Adventure in the Amazon, Curaca camp

Day 1.

Arrival at Iquitos airport; transfer to hotel.

In the afternoon, city tour with your English speaking guide followed by dinner at own cost. Restaurants recommended by guide.

Day 2.

9.30a.m Continental breakfast in hotel, followed by trip on River Nanay as far as the confluence with River Momon to visit the Bora Indian village in order to experience their folklore and handicrafts. Then on down the river to see anacondas.

1p.m. Lunch at the El Meson Restaurant, which serves typical local dishes.

5p.m. Leave by river colectivo to go up river to our camp. A distance of 170km (105 miles) which will take 6 hours. Hammocks will be provided for your comfort.

11p.m. Arrival at Amazon Curaca Camp.

Day 3.

6a.m. For those who like getting up early, a dawn boat trip to see birds.

7.30a.m. Breakfast followed by all day river trip to Yana Yacu, where we shall see two types of fresh water dolphins. We moor at a sandy beach where we can swim with the dolphins and then eat our lunch. On this trip we can also expect to see monkeys and sloths and will be able to fish for piranhas on the return before visiting the largest floating plants on the Amazon – the Amazon Water Lily Victoria Regia.

5p.m. Return to Camp

Day 4.

7.30a.m. Breakfast

8.30a.m. River trip by canoe.

1p.m. Lunch.

3.30p.m. 2 hour walk to camp in the high jungle in order to observe insects, toads, monkeys and other nocturnal wildlife. Optional: partaking of ayahuasca under the guidance of 2 shamans and your guide. This would normally be done at the Camp.

Day 5.

7.30am Breakfast.

This day is dedicated to learning about local customs and folklore: how they make their handicrafts and also how plants are used for medicinal purposes. The shaman will explain the importance of ayahuasca‘s healing properties.

1pm Lunch.

3.30pm Visit the neighbouring community of San Joaquin de Omaguas to see their customs and folklore.

Day 6.

6am Breakfast

Return to Iquitos via Nauta for lunch – at own cost - and thence to our hotel.

Evening in Iquitos; dinner at own cost.

Day 7

Transfer to Airport for early flight to Lima.

Cost of this holiday is £550.00 per person including internal flights and meals.
