The Undiscovered North

Day 1               Arrival in Lima and transfer to hotel.
Day 2               Flight to the tropical modern and colonial city of Chiclayo:  la Cuidad de la Amistad – the City of Friendship.  City tour and visit to the witches market.  (B)
Day 3               Excursion to the archaeological site f the Lord of Sipan and visit to the impressive Royal Tombs Museum. (B)
Day 4               Excursion to the dry forests of Chappan where we try to spot the Spectacle Bear and more wildlife. (B,L)
Day 5               Drive from Chiclayo to the pretty colonial city of Trujillo: la Capital de la Eternal Primavera– the Capital of Eternal Spring.  Visit Chan Chan and the fishing village of Huanchaco. (B)
Day 6               Excursion to the Sun and Moon Temple which is still being excavated. (B)
Day 7               Drive from Trujillo to Cajamarca via El Brujo and lunch at Peruvian Paso Horse Show. (B,L)
Day 8               Cajamarca, city full of history and relaxing hot springs; city tour and visit to Cumbe de Mayo and pre-Inca necropolis of Otuzco. (B)
Day 9               Spectacular drive from Cajamarca to Leimebamba, over high tops and into deep canyons. (B,L,D)
Day 10             Visit to the mummy museum, the cemetery tombs of Revash and drive to Tingo. (B,L,D)
Day 11             Excursion to the well conserved fortress of Kuelap.  These magical surroundings of Chachapoyas still hide hundreds or even thousands of undiscovered treasures. (B,L,D)
Day 12             Visit to Sarcophagi of Karajia, placed at the edge of steep cliffs, decorated with geometric figures (B,L,D)
Day 13             Drive from Chachapoyas to Tarapoto and stay in a delightful resort. (B)
Day 14             Tarapoto.  One more day to relax from this wonderful trip. (B)
Day 15             Flight back to Lima.  Day use of hotel and transfer to airport for international connection. (B)

OPTIONAL    Extra days in Tarapoto and optional excursions from resort (waterfalls, the blue lagoon, Lago Lindo etc) or on to Cusco for visit to Machu Picchu.
Note                This trip is quoted with a combination of Tourist and Tourist Superior class accommodation.  The north of Peru is less touristy than the rest of the country, with the result that only in a few of the towns/cities are there high(er) standard hotels.  Upgrades are available in Trujillo, Chiclayo and Cajamarca. In September this can include the Trujillo Spring Festival.
